If You're Frustrated By Sounds & Tones
Then Read Every Word I'm Letting Out Here

  • Don't know how to physically move the mouth to make certain sounds? I can't simply like baby, always learn by mimicking what I heard. most programs and apps in the market only record and analyze the teacher's pronunciation, so of course the student's ability is going to be limited by that.
  • Speaking the language is so difficult. I'm introvert and struggle allowing themselves to speak and make mistakes... when a Chinese person speaks to me. They talk very fast, and it takes me awhile to even understand one sentence.
  • The main challenge is that, where I live--there aren't any Chinese native speakers. Therefore, it's difficult to get any oral practice. Struggle with tones, have problem finding program that has an optiom for listening at both a natural fast pace as well as slowed down.
  • Picking up the tones in words and noticing the phonetic difference of z, c, and s.
  • My vocabulary is very limited so when I listen to native speakers with their extensive vocabulary and natural accents, I get so lost.
  • It's very difficult to remember the tones for each word. I worry that when I try to speak Chinese with someone I will say the incorrect word all because my tone is incorrect.
  • For the most part, I'm tone deaf. I'm unable to sing and carry a tune, and I think this makes proper pronunciation of tonal languages very difficult for me.
  • I can imitate Chinese speakers and make the sounds and tones. But I can't remember the alphabet very well. When I start to pick up the alphabet, I forget the tones.
  • Some words can have a different tone that sound the same but complete different meaning
  • I don't make the right sounds & the words are not understood so I would definitely say pronunciation is the main problem!
  • Don't understand how to emphasis the words up down or down then up
  • I cant find books to study with. I like to study by watching videos to hear pronunciation while following along with books.
  • Can't find convenient tools to practice on a regular basis?

4. An INTERACTIVE (self-correction) Online Practice Platform to Learn to Speak Mandarin. I invented this platform myself, based on the understanding of the common struggles of English-speaking students. For every character, word, phrase, sentence etc, you practice by following the native speaking, once you feel confident, you try to speak, then the app will tell you what you actually said. If it match the original word you can move on to the next word. If it doesn't match, you go back and continue to practice. It's like you always have a teacher in person, the picture below is the user interface. Isn't that cool?

Frustrated By Characters?

  • Can't remember how to write the characters. This is especially harder if you tend to focus on learning traditional Chinese while your Mandarin teacher only teaches simplified. Even if you tried learning the meaning of radicals and in which characters they are applied to. It only improves your ability to recognize characters and have an idea of what they mean, though, not remember how to write them.
  • Memorizing how to write characters, my spoken vocabulary is larger than my reading vocabulary which is larger than my written vocabulary.
  • I have never been able to memorize the characters well.
  • The stroke, I have difficulty to learn and memorize the order of the stroke when writing a character, it was very important and I really want to get it right.
  • It's a big challenge for me and become really big when it comes to write and read especially! It's easy to quit after you realize you're not making big step forward.
